Microneedling in Pittsburgh, PA

Pittsburgh’s North Hills · Collagen-Induction Microneedling

A minimally invasive way to rebuild collagen and refine skin texture, scars, and tone. Always Melissa.

Microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-channels that prompt your skin to produce new collagen and elastin. Over a series of sessions it softens fine lines, smooths acne scars, and evens texture, with little downtime. At Aetheria every treatment is performed by Melissa Kolowitz, PA-C.

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also called collagen-induction therapy, uses a professional device with fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These trigger your body’s natural repair response, which ramps up collagen and elastin over the weeks that follow.

The result builds gradually. As new collagen forms, fine lines soften, acne scars and enlarged pores become less noticeable, and overall texture and tone look smoother. The same micro-channels also let medical-grade skincare absorb more effectively. It is a treatment built on your skin’s own biology rather than added volume.

Microneedling works with your skin’s own repair process. Done in a measured series, it rebuilds texture and tone in a way that looks natural, never overdone.

How Microneedling Works

Microneedling does not add anything to the skin. It signals the skin to rebuild itself. Here is what that delivers, and why a measured series of sessions works better than a single aggressive treatment.

Collagen and Elastin

Controlled micro-channels prompt new collagen and elastin, which firm and smooth the skin over time.

Refined Texture

Softens the look of acne scars, enlarged pores, and uneven tone for a smoother surface.

Minimal Downtime

Mild redness like a light sunburn typically settles within a day or two, so most return to routine quickly.

Better Product Absorption

The micro-channels let medical-grade serums penetrate more deeply in the hours after treatment.

What Microneedling Treats

Microneedling is versatile because it works on the skin’s structure rather than one specific concern. Common reasons patients come to Aetheria for microneedling include the following.

Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Softens early fine lines by rebuilding collagen in the surface layers.

Acne Scars

Smooths the depressed, uneven texture left behind by past breakouts.

Enlarged Pores

Refines the look of large pores and rough, congested texture.

Uneven Tone and Pigment

Helps even a dull or blotchy complexion, including some pigmentation concerns.

Mild Skin Laxity

Adds subtle firmness where skin has begun to lose its tautness.

Stretch Marks and Texture

Improves the texture of stretch marks and other textural irregularities.

Is Microneedling Right For You?

Microneedling may be a fit if you want to improve skin texture, scarring, or early signs of aging without surgery or significant downtime. Most patients we treat with microneedling share several of these characteristics:

  • Want to soften acne scars, fine lines, enlarged pores, or uneven texture
  • Prefer a treatment that rebuilds the skin gradually and looks natural
  • Can commit to a short series of sessions for the best result
  • Are not pregnant, and have no active acne flare, infection, or open lesion at the treatment site
  • Want a provider who will recommend a different treatment when microneedling is not the right answer

If deeper laxity or more advanced concerns are the priority, Melissa may suggest Morpheus8 radiofrequency microneedling or another option at your consultation. Individual results vary.

Why Aetheria for Microneedling

Microneedling results depend on technique, depth, and a treatment plan matched to your skin, not on chasing the most aggressive setting in a single visit. A measured, considered approach is the right clinical approach, and it is how every microneedling treatment is planned at Aetheria.

Every treatment is performed by Melissa Kolowitz, PA-C. Always Melissa. Same provider, same clinical eye every visit. The plan you agree on at consultation is the one Melissa delivers.

  • Provider-performed. Your treatment is performed by a PA-C, not handed off.
  • Depth matched to the concern. Settings are tailored to the area and your skin rather than a fixed protocol.
  • A planned series. We build results across sessions and track your progress between visits.
  • Honest fit assessment. If Morpheus8 or a peel is the better answer, Melissa will tell you.

Your Microneedling Visit

From first conversation to follow-up, here is how a microneedling treatment works at Aetheria.

Consultation

Melissa assesses your skin, concerns, and goals, then recommends whether microneedling fits and how many sessions to plan. About 30 minutes, with no pressure to treat the same day.

Your Treatment

A numbing cream keeps you comfortable. The device passes over the treatment area to create the micro-channels. Most sessions take about 30 to 45 minutes including numbing.

Recovery

Mild redness and a feeling like a light sunburn are normal for a day or two. We send you home with simple aftercare to protect the skin while it repairs.

Results and Series

Skin looks fresher within a couple of weeks, and collagen continues to build over the following months. We typically plan a short series spaced about four weeks apart.

Common Questions About Microneedling

How many microneedling sessions will I need?

It depends on your skin and what you are treating. For texture, fine lines, or scarring we typically recommend a series of three to six sessions spaced about four weeks apart, then occasional maintenance to sustain the result. Melissa maps out a realistic plan at your consultation based on your concern and how your skin responds. Individual results vary.

Does microneedling hurt, and what is the downtime?

We apply a numbing cream first, so most patients are comfortable and describe a light scratching sensation. Afterward the skin looks flushed, similar to a mild sunburn, usually for one to two days. Most people return to normal activities the next day and simply avoid heavy sweating, makeup, and direct sun for a short window we review with you.

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

Skin often looks fresher within a couple of weeks, but the bigger change builds over the following months as new collagen forms. Results from a completed series can last many months, and most patients maintain them with periodic sessions. Because microneedling works through your own collagen, the improvement is gradual rather than instant. Individual results vary.

Is microneedling safe for darker skin tones?

Microneedling is generally considered well suited to a wide range of skin tones because it works mechanically rather than with heat or light that targets pigment. That said, your history and skin type guide the settings and aftercare. Melissa reviews this with you at consultation to confirm microneedling is the right choice for your skin.

How is microneedling different from Morpheus8?

Standard microneedling uses fine needles to rebuild collagen in the surface layers and is excellent for texture, pores, and early fine lines. Morpheus8 adds radiofrequency energy that reaches deeper to address laxity and remodel tissue. They overlap but solve different problems, and Melissa helps you choose, or sequence both, based on your skin and goals.
