Ultherapy vs Morpheus8: Ultrasound or RF Microneedling?

Ultherapy® focuses ultrasound energy beneath the skin without needles. Morpheus8® carries radiofrequency energy into the skin through fine microneedles. Both use controlled heat to prompt your body’s own collagen remodeling. Because they reach the tissue differently, the number of sessions and the recovery time also differ.

If you searched “Ulthera Pittsburgh,” you were likely looking for Ultherapy, the treatment performed with the Ulthera® System. Aetheria Aesthetics & Wellness™ offers Morpheus8, not Ultherapy. The sections below compare the two and list questions to ask at a consultation.

What Ultherapy is cleared for

The FDA’s 2025 clearance for the Ulthera System covers lifting the eyebrow, lifting lax tissue under the chin and on the neck, improving lines and wrinkles of the upper chest, and improving the appearance of skin laxity on the abdomen and arms. Its built-in ultrasound imaging lets the provider see the skin and the layers beneath it, up to 8 mm below the surface, before treating. The treatment itself is delivered at set depths chosen for each area.

What Morpheus8 is designed for

InMode describes Morpheus8 Burst as fractional radiofrequency technology for applications that call for soft-tissue contraction or coagulation. In practice, interchangeable tips let the provider choose a depth for each area: shallower passes for surface texture and acne scarring, deeper ones for collagen and firmness, and the deepest on body areas with both loose skin and fat.

At Aetheria, Morpheus8 is designed for people noticing early laxity, rough texture, or scarring on the face, neck, or body. Melissa adjusts the depth between sessions based on how your skin responds. See Morpheus8 in Pittsburgh for the Resurfacing, Burst, and Burst Deep options in detail.

Sessions and recovery

Ultherapy’s manufacturer says many patients need a single treatment, with results developing over the following months, and that most people go back to normal activities right away. Redness, swelling, tenderness, and temporary nerve effects can occur, and the provider who performs it should walk you through the full safety information.

For Morpheus8, a typical course on the face and neck is two to three sessions, four to six weeks apart. On the body it’s typically one to two. Most patients look slightly pink, with a sandpaper-like texture, for about 24 to 48 hours after a face session, and deeper body settings often take a day or so longer. Non-strenuous routine is usually fine the same day. Results typically build over months as collagen remodels. Individual results vary.

Who performs Morpheus8 at Aetheria

At Aetheria, Melissa Kolowitz, PA-C, performs every Morpheus8 treatment herself. She reviews your history first and sets the depth and energy for each area.

Choosing between them

A softer jawline can come from loose skin, lost facial volume, fullness under the chin, or some of each. Each of those calls for a different treatment, so the consultation starts by working out which one it is. When the fullness under the chin is the main concern, our QuantumRF vs Morpheus8 comparison explains the fat-layer and skin-layer sides of that decision.

Good questions to bring to any consultation:

  • What’s contributing to the look of this area?
  • Why does this treatment fit my skin and history?
  • How many sessions should I plan for, and how much recovery?
  • If this isn’t the right fit, what is?

Melissa answers all of these at your consultation in Pittsburgh’s North Hills. Read more on the Morpheus8 treatment page or book a consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer Ultherapy in Pittsburgh?

No. Aetheria offers Morpheus8® radiofrequency microneedling, performed by Melissa Kolowitz, PA-C. Every program starts with an in-person consultation, where she looks at your skin and tells you whether Morpheus8 fits your goals.

Is Ulthera the same as Ultherapy?

Yes, in everyday searching. Ultherapy is the treatment name, and the Ulthera® System is the device that performs it. Morpheus8 is a different device that carries radiofrequency energy through microneedles instead of focusing ultrasound.

Is Morpheus8 better than Ultherapy?

They work differently, so neither is better across the board. Ultherapy focuses ultrasound energy beneath the skin without needles. Morpheus8 carries radiofrequency energy through microneedles at a depth chosen for each area, so it's designed to work on skin texture and laxity in the same series. The right fit depends on what's behind the concern you're seeing, which is what the consultation sorts out. Individual results vary.

How many Morpheus8 sessions will I need?

For the face and neck, typically two to three sessions, four to six weeks apart. For the body, typically one to two. Melissa sets the count at your consultation and adjusts it based on how your skin responds between sessions. Individual results vary.
